BEV'S PASSING

JULY 8 SUNSHINE COASTT Q'LD. It was with deep regret I received the sad news today, of the passing of my sister Beverley. Born Beverley Dawn, she was the second child of Mavis and Harry Norton, both deceased. Bev passed away peacefully at the LGH this morning in her 79th year. She was the much loved partner of Bob and mother of Brendon, Sharyn, Robyn, Brett and Kevin, and leaves behind all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
I have to say that Bev was another statistic of the tobacco industry, having developed emphysema several years ago. Bev's passing is a timely warning to those thinking of quitting. It was during a recent conversation I had with her where she lamented having smoked for most of he adult years. Her regret was that her addiction transcended successive generations, and was saddened at having smoked around her children.
I feel obliged to pass on her final words during that conversation, where she said she wished she had listened to, and not heeded the advice from many friends and family to quit, long before the onset of the disease that finally took her life, much to her regret. My sister's legacy will be, that in her final years she pulled no punches when spreading the message of the dangers of smoking to all who were prepared to listen.
I, along with my wife Sylvia, and all Bev's family will miss her dearly. She was a real character and told it as she saw it, but beneath that tough exterior she had a heart of pure gold and empathised with anyone in need as often demonstrated, by extending a helping hand. Over the many years, Bev was surrounded by Lonely and unloved souls, especially around the dinner table at Christmas. Such was her charity to her fellow man.
In her wake she also leaves behind her good friend Chris Sharpe who cared for her and was always available to transport Bev when and wherever she needed to go. Thank you Chris for always being there.
Finally, Bev's Rock was her partner Bob. She adored him and he was always by her side to care and nurture her. All of her family including her older brother Ray and sister in law Yvonne, greatly appreciate Bob's tireless dedication to her welfare right up until the end. Our tears are your tears Bob, you remain in our collective hearts one of natures gentlemen.
Sylvia and I extend our condolences to Bob and all Bev's family, in the knowledge that finally Bev is at peace. Sleep well my sister, we all love you. You will remain in our hearts and forever be part of us.
POSTSCRIPT: At the time of writing I accidentally overlooked two important people who were part of Bev's support team. Bob's daughter Kylie Crerar and son Danny. Kylie and Danny assistance in filling in the gaps and making arrangement for Bev's travel and extended care, and were integral to the functionality of her daily routine. I know Bev touched the hearts of many and when her time arrived Bob, Kylie and Danny stepped up the plate to ensure her journey would be easy.
In the weeks leading up her passing, Bev became even more dependent on family for support and these beautiful souls were there for her. Thanks to all three of you and also to Chris Sharpe for your love and dedication.
